2010 Roses Design Silver Award for University of St Andrews

Hulley & Kirkwood were delighted to be presented with a Silver Award for the University of St Andrews New Medical Sciences Building at the Roses Design Awards ceremony in Manchester on 14th October 2010.

Designed as a world-leading medical facility to attract students and academics from around the globe, this award winning new Medical Sciences Building brings together medical science departments to nurture cross-departmental learning and research in a design which places emphasis on social interaction. The 10,900sqm building accommodates clinical skills, anatomy and teaching laboratories for medicine, biology and chemistry, medical research facilities, bio photonics department, lecture theatre facilities, offices and café, social and foyer spaces.

The key to this successful innovative building and building services design was for the team to work closely to produce fully integrated solutions and an overall environmental strategy.

Hulley and Kirkwood carried out extensive IES thermal modeling and sun path analysis, as well as developing bespoke energy profile models, to support energy efficiency, sustainability and environmental responsibility.
