Project Title: Cardiovascular & Biomedical Research Centres
Client: University of Glasgow
Due for completion in August 2008, these two new laboratory buildings will constitute a 'Centre of Excellence' for Biomedical and Cardiovascular Research in the West of Scotland, pulling together existing leading research groups and faculties from the Greater Glasgow Area.
The two buildings, to be sited on the main University Campus in the West End of Glasgow and constructed over a total of six distinct levels, will constitute a total of some 12,000m² GIFA of primary laboratory, secondary laboratory (support spaces) and tertiary space.
The detailed briefing and design processes adopted by the Design Team and Client have ensured that the particular and unique requirements of each research group are satisfied, whilst common or shared facilities are appropriate and readily accessible by researchers on all floors. Typically of research laboratories, both buildings are heavily serviced with the inclusion of laboratory gases, high ventilation rates, high density of equipment, safety cabinet extract systems and fume cupboard extract systems in addition to the conventional Mechanical and Electrical services provision.
The scheme benefits from major, prestigious Funders in the form of the European Union, British Heart Foundation and the Wellcome Trust under the Joint Infrastructure Fund.
