Gates Power Transmission Ltd – Dumfries

Case Studies

Project Title: Gates Power Transmission Ltd – Dumfries

Client: Gates Power Transmission

As a worldwide supplier of automotive belts and hose, Gates recognizes its responsibilities towards both the local and global environment in which it carries out its business. Also apparent is the company’s total commitment to quality. As part of this commitment Hulley & Kirkwood were instructed by Gates Power Transmission Limited to appraise the performance of heating and ventilation systems within the Main Production Building, Warehouse and Focus Factory in Dumfries.

HulleySIM examined the performance of existing and proposed installations using CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) Analysis and Thermal Modelling through bulk air fluid modelling, thus providing a series of proposals, costs and programme for installation from which Gates Power Transmission Limited could move forward.

The accuracy of any simulation model and hence the validity of the proposals are governed by the assumptions made and the resolution of the geometry. From the information supplied by Gates Power Transmission, the geometry was accurately determined and assumptions were made on the internal gains were calibrated alongside production figures and site measurements, this allowed us to have a “working” simulation model that imitated the conditions of the factory under varying operating conditions on which to test our proposals which were to make best use of existing installations and maximise efficient use of energy.
