Project Title: Glasgow Harbour Phase 2 – Dandora Residential Development
Client: Dandara
Established in 1988, the Dandara Group is one of the most progressive property development companies in the UK. Operating primarily in Manchester, Leeds and Liverpool in the North West, new developments in Glasgow and London are now under way.
As part of Hulley & Kirkwood’s duties on the full mechanical and electrical services package for the development, HulleySIM were directed to investigate the daylight availability within various flat types at different locations within the Glasgow Harbour Phase 2: Dandara residential development. The quantity of daylight inside a room varies with the brightness distribution of the sky and is often described in terms of a daylight factor.
In terms of expected daylight factors within the development the study compared predicted daylight factors to the recommendations made in the British Standards “BS 8206-2: Code of practice for day lighting” which suggests;
- Minimum values of average daylight factor in dwellings
- Even if a predominantly day-lit appearance is not required in dwellings, it is recommended that the average daylight factor be at least 1 % in bedrooms, 1.5 % in living rooms and 2 % in kitchens.
