Quartermile is the exciting new vision to redevelop the old Edinburgh Royal Infirmary 8 acre city centre site at Laurieston Place into a successful new community over an eight year period. One of the first developments on the site shall be the new Q2 Commercial Office building. A full Part J environmental assessment was carried out in house by H&K using TAS Simulation Software via the Hulley Sim group to allow the design team to make strategic decisions on extent of glazing, glass performance criteria , insulation performance requirements of all other elements to allow regulation compliance with the Carbon Emissions Calculation Method by comparing the proposed building to an equivalent 'nominal' building. A fully automatic lighting control system is specified with an LG3 compliant lighting design. A fully automatic L2 class fire alarm system is also specified, along with intruder detection and 4 machine room less 13 person passenger lifts. A fully integrated fire engineered scheme of atrium smoke extract along with internal core smoke shaft risers and smoke curtains is designed in accordance with a fire strategy developed in accordance with JGA Fire Consultants.
