Comprised the extension of the Ground and First Floor Check-in and Arrivals Area, and incorporated new Check-in Facilities, Airline Front of House Accommodation, vertical circulation and Retail Areas. The Check-in Area was the first at Heathrow to utilise chilled beams to provide cooling. In conjunction with the landside works the airside baggage handling system was completely renewed in order to achieve the Department of Transport's Requirements to screen 100% of all hold baggage.
