Project Title: Europier Heathrow Airport (T1)
Client: British Airports Authority
Project Value: £35m
Hulley contact: Jim Costello
This £35m project at Heathrow Airport was the culmination of two years worth of Design and Installation Work which produced what is, to date, the benchmark of all British Airport Authorities’ Airport Buildings.
This Project won the British Construction Industry Award in the Category of "Best Building" in 1996, and can be best described as a landmark building within the Heathrow Complex which offers panoramic views across the airfield.
From the Mechanical and Electrical Services point of view, as well as the complex Flight Information Systems, Life Safety Systems and Specialist Individual Airline Installations, at time of construction it included the largest Displacement Ventilation System in Europe and proved, in terms of energy performance after monitoring by BAA, to be the best performing building at any of its Airports.
Targets for this project were set by the client in terms of built cost and Life Cycle Costing and this was achieved by H&K as part of the Design Team by scrupulous value engineering and innovative pre-construction standardisation techniques which proved invaluable to the successful installation Contractors.
