Hulley & Kirkwood scoops top ACE Award

14.05.09

Hulley & Kirkwood are delighted to have been announced as ACE's Winner - Building Services (Medium Firm) with our high-profile project, Hoddinott Hall.
Hoddinott Hall is the new home of the BBC National Orchestra of Wales built as an adjunct to the Wales Millennium Centre. The concert hall's unique design cannot be compared to other concert halls due to a number of unique features. The venue’s key acoustic spaces are isolated from vibration and noise using ‘box in box’ construction techniques, combined with a high specification acoustic design which necessitated innovative solutions to match including a complex lighting solution and low energy design. This was the most acoustically challenging project in the UK, if not Europe, to date.

Hulley's dominated the category after another of our projects, Hull Oncology and Haematology Unit at Castle Hill Hospital, was Commended in the same category. Both projects demonstrated a high degree of achievement, value and engineering excellence over the last 12 months.

ACE's Engineering Excellence Awards, took place at a packed gala dinner held on Wednesday 13th May at the Victoria Park Plaza Hotel in London. Nicky Campbell hosted the event.
