Full steam ahead for prison projects

A multi office effort, led by the H&K Birmingham team and consisting of resource utilised via our Bristol, Cardiff, Epsom and Glasgow offices, are providing intensive M&E design for the £82.5m Maghull Prison and £85m Belmarsh Prison projects. Teams are working on a variety of buildings from a living unit and sportshall, to a kitchen and gatehouse. A two dimensional design is due to be completed by all offices over the next few weeks, with a fully co-ordinated three dimensional BIM (Building Integrated Model) to follow.

 

H&K were commissioned to take on the assessment of existing HV infrastructure and re-alignment to suit the two new prisons and their respective facilities which include new high voltage substations and infrastructure diversions to HV assets being carried out. Targeting BREEAM Excellent for all building with renewable strategies including air source heat pumps, biodiesel boilers and onsite waste cooking oil recycling in a multi-oil burner.
