Completed H&K project visited by HRH Prince Charles
30.07.10
Their Royal Highnesses the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall visited military patients and their families at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham today (29th July 2010). The royal couple flew into the hospital in Edgbaston by helicopter and were escorted to the spectacular new hospital, which treats all of British military patients who require hospital care. They were met by Julie Moore, Chief Executive of University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, and Group Captain Wendy Williams, Commandant of the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine. They were then introduced to NHS and military staff, who work together to care for the military patients at the hospital. The Prince of Wales then met some of the patients, while the Duchess of Cornwall met separately with a number of military families who are staying in accommodation near the new hospital.
The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (QEHB) has now taken over all inpatient care from Selly Oak Hospital, which previously treated military patients. The visit by the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall is the first royal visit to the QEHB, which received its first patients on 16 June.
