Project Value: £70m

Carron Grange was a Special Needs School built as part of the Falkirk Schools PFI project. The services design was carried out to be sympathetic to hearing, visually, physically and mentally impaired children. To allow this to happen the school had to be accessible at all levels to all pupils. This was achieved by the installation of lifts suitable for wheelchair access, where applicable. All lifts had voice annunciation equipment and Braille inserts on landing and car push buttons to ensure that visually impaired children could use them. Specific lighting and finishes were selected to be sympathetic to the visually impaired children and Induction Loop Systems were installed in all classrooms for the benefit of the hearing impaired. Fire alarm systems were also fitted with visual indicators for the benefit of the hearing impaired children. All heat emitters were designed as low surface temperature units. The school was also provided with a Hydrotherapy Area.
