Derbyshire Children's Hospital is a Paediatric Extension to the existing Derby City General Hospital which was completed in the Summer of 1996.

The services value of the project was £3.5 million and included Paediatric Intensive Care Units (PICU), Oncology Suite, Operating Theatres, Outpatients Departments, Day Centre and Ward Accommodation. Extensive work was also carried out on the existing central boilerhouses to uprate existing coal fired steam boilers and provide a new MTHW shell and tube boilers.

The Contract also included provision of an asceptic Pharmaceutical Suite as part of the larger Pharmacy Department. This Suite was used for preparation of cytotoxic drugs in a safe and sterile environment.

Independent fundraising also provided additional resources to decorate the Main Entrance, Children's Wards and Outpatient Areas to provide a 'Non-Institutional' Environment to the children. H&K assisted the Specialist Interior Designer in this exercise giving advice on special lighting, air distribution equipment and finishes.'
