Project Title: Hamilton Townhouse Complex

Client: South Lanarkshire Council

Project Value: £8m

Hulley contact: Robert McNish

Three Grade “A” Listed Buildings in Hamilton (each constructed separately and all historically regarded as independent entities) have been fused into one in a refurbishment Project to create new council offices, library and performing arts venue.

The refurbished integrated modern facilities include a revitalised library developed along the lines of the Government’s “New Library” Model, an industry-standard events venue, high civil ceremony facilities able to link to banqueting services within the Town Hall, a base for the council’s community learning team, crèche and a base for a pro-active Arts Development Service able to outreach and stimulate arts activities in the wider community.

The floor area is spread over 17 different levels and allows for disabled access to all locations. Extensive refurbishment created a magnificent 900 seat auditorium. This will provide a venue suitable for opera, dance and concerts to take place on an upgraded stage area.

New bar and circulation areas will be created with new glass structured adjacent to existing facilities.

The Council hopes to develop the range of services offered from the complex to restore the building to a strategic position in the civic and community life of the Hamilton Area.
