Project Title: Ricoh Football Stadium, Coventry

Client: SABD

Project Value: £53m

Hulley contact: Andy Bradley

Hulley & Kirkwood were to be part of the team, lead by construction giants Laing O’Rourke with Haden Young, responsible for the building of the new Coventry Stadium. The £53m development will not only be the new home of Coventry City FC (32,000 capacity) but also includes 8,000-sq meter exhibition/events hall, major banqueting facilities (2,000 seating) as well as a health/fitness complex and office accommodation. The UK’s largest ‘resort casino’ will also be created in the scheme boasting entertainment, restaurants, gaming and accommodation.

The mechanical and electrical system design takes recognition of the multiple use of the development by incorporating extensive zonal distribution and control. Systems incorporate centralised high capacity boiler, chilled water and domestic hot water plant, high voltage electricity sub-stations and extensive automatic building control systems.

Extensive negotiations were undertaken to ensure that all statutory requirements were complied with including interpretation of the Green Guide within a mixed use development.

The green light for the scheme was a welcome boost to the area providing hundreds of new jobs, excellent facilities for the local community and has played a vital role in regenerating the area.
