The project includes works to 21 Schools within the borough of Tower Hamlets including 19 major re-modelling and refurbishment works and 2 new builds.
Works within the re-modelled schools comprises extension and provision of new Mechanical and Electrical Services to Classrooms, Drama Studios, Gymnasia, Music Rooms, Sports Halls, Kitchens, Dining Facilities, Hydrotherapy and Specialist Care Rooms, together with Ancillary and Office Accommodation.
Application of Specialist Systems are provided as required to maintain comfort conditions in accordance with DFEE recommendations, utilising comfort cooling, mechanical and natural ventilation systems in addition to conventional heating applications.
The two new schools have been subject to computer simulation modelling to maximise the use of natural ventilation for summertime cooling in conjunction with fabric material selection and maximum natural daylight. One of these schools include vertical ventilation shafts and exposed slabs to assist natural cross flow ventilation and heat removal during summertime conditions.
New build schools and areas where extended are provided with low temperature under floor heating to maintain full use of wall space and allow flexibility of accommodation for children of all ages.
All schools and systems are subject to a review of Health and Safety issues, where existing services are being upgraded to satisfy current legislation and educational requirements A.
