Irvine’s new leisure centre has opened its doors

Irvine’s new £20 million sport and leisure centre opened its doors for the first time on Friday 3rd February 2017.

The new facility in the centre of Irvine has a 25m, six-lane swimming pool and a training pool with changing facilities, a spectator zone which can seat up to 200 people, a six court multi-purpose sports hall for indoor sports that can be used for a multitude of activities including basketball, football and badminton, a gym along with vast studios and a café where visitors can wind down after their activities.
Also included is tourist information including local places of interest, heritage trails, festivals and events, information on genealogy, local and family history and a venue for wedding ceremonies, civic functions, artists in residence, exhibitions and performances.
Two things are immediate and striking – the beautiful public realm space leading you to the facility and the huge foyer where the modern building meets the traditional Townhouse.
Hulley and Kirkwood provided mechanical and electrical design services with a low-zero carbon technology solution.
