Hulley & Kirkwood were responsible for the complete design of the M&E services for the Ricoh Arena, Coventry.
The £57m development is not only the home of Coventry City FC (32,000 capacity) but also includes a 8,000m² exhibition/events hall, for 10,000 people, 3000m² conference and banqueting facility for 2,500 people, 19 food kiosks, bar and bistro, casino and an integral health and fitness centre. Car parking for 2000 vehicles is also provided.
The UK’s largest ‘resort casino’ was also created in the scheme boasting entertainment, restaurants, gaming and accommodation.
The mechanical and electrical system design takes recognition of the multiple use of the development by incorporating extensive zonal distribution and control. Systems incorporate centralised high capacity boiler, chilled water and domestic hot water plant, high voltage electricity sub-stations and extensive automatic building control systems.
Extensive negotiations were undertaken to ensure that all statutory requirements were complied with including interpretation of the Green Guide within a mixed use development.
