Hulley & Kirkwood are appointed through Shepherd Engineering Services to provide full design of the Mechanical and Electrical Services for Phase 3 of the University of St Andrews Fife Park student accommodation site, including Section 6 compliance modelling.
The £14m project comprises 324 rooms over 9 separate student accommodation buildings including kitchen / laundry facilities and external amenities.
Electrical distribution, boosted domestic water, sprinkler mains and high efficiency gas fired LTHW district heating serving all 9 blocks are derived from a new centralised energy centre. CHP plant has been carefully sized using in use energy performance data from previous phases and integrated within the heating and power central plant within the new Phase 3 energy centre to reduce cost of energy, reduce carbon emissions and provide EPC A rated facilities along with an overall BREEAM rating of Very Good as a minimum.
In addition to the above, the Phase 3 district heating infrastructure was designed to allow future connection to the wider University of St Andrews LTHW heating ring main which shall be derived from its new biomass plant due to be online in 2016.
Hulley & Kirkwood are also appointed by the main contractor, Sir Robert McAlpine as BREEAM Assessor for the project.
