Barnsley Town Centre Regeneration Scheme.
This £70m project is a genuine town centre mixed use project consisting of a new 7,500m² department store, 3,000m² cinema, 25,000m² of retail shopping units, 18,000m² car park, 12,000m² of common service yard accommodation and a new 7,500m² market building which provides market stalls for up to 60 traders as well as a range of cafes and restaurants.
Early works have involved the diversions of existing services around the site and negotiations with each of the utilities in turn to secure the new supplies required to serve the complex. The electrical infrastructure for the development involves a complex 3.0km off site cable lay back to the point of connection in order to serve the development and the corresponding 6No. dedicated HV sub-stations.
The scheme will be constructed to a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ specification and will include a 10% improvement over the performance of the new 2010 Part L Building Regulations.
