In May 2001 Lothian University Hospital Trust sold the 19-acre Lauriston Place site, paving the way for Quartermile. The £400m development has been active since 2005, when the first designs were conceived, with seven of the fourteen projects on site completed and a further three currently in construction.

Quartermile proudly displays its mix of 21st century structures and historic Edinburgh buildings, preserving the site’s past whilst providing an exciting future. It stands on the site of what used to be the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh. It’s a place that the city’s inhabitants hold in real affection, as well as being of true historical significance.

As well as the expanding range of cafés such as Peter’s Yard, Quartermile is also home to the UK's first Residence Inn by Marriott, a 107-bed aparthotel offering long and short term accommodation.

Quartermile is not only in a prime central Edinburgh location overlooking The Meadows and a stone’s throw from the Old Town, but is perfectly positioned to provide for all the needs of the people of the city now and in the future.
