Galeri 2

The existing Galeri, opened in Caernarfon in 2005, is a hub for arts and creative industries in North Wales.

With an expanding need to create dedicated space for both cinema and theatre productions as part of the overall development, a new extension was proposed to house two dedicated cinema / small theatre spaces, supporting ancillary accommodation and office space.  The extension also became the new focal point and entrance to the facility.

As part of an integrated design team, Hulley & Kirkwood were engaged to provide the M&E design for the extension.

At the early stage of design Hulley & Kirkwood worked closely with all stakeholders, Arts Council Wales, Galeri’s Theatre specialists, both internal and external, in addition to the design architect and structural engineer to help develop the concept design and brief.

Close collaboration with the acoustician, theatre/cinema specialist and the Galeri's own theatre specialist – was critical in delivering a design to meet the brief.  This process continued throughout construction, with the contractor engaged and involved at all key stages to ensure the specific design elements were implemented.

The project was completed and officially opened in September 2018 by the Welsh actor Rhys Ifans.
