Best Healthcare Project Award
Ayrshire & Arran Acute Mental Healthcare and Community Hospital has been presented with a Silver Best Healthcare Project Award at the Partnership Awards 2015, recognising and rewarding the best in PPP.
Hulley & Kirkwood is Services Designer to Balfour Beatty who has been appointed by NHS Ayrshire & Arran to finance, design and construct their £47m Acute Mental Health and Community development.
The project comprises a new 206 bedroom integrated mental health and community facility, bringing together a comprehensive range of mental health patient facilities on the Ayrshire Central Hospital site, Irvine.
The development is being funded using the Scottish Government’s Non-Profit Distributing (NPD) Model and currently under construction due for completion in 2016.
During construction, clinical services will be maintained on the hospital site within the existing operational buildings. The new facility will be constructed in a series of phases to allow appropriate decant provision from the existing buildings.
The energy strategy for the building incorporates multiple combined heat and power plant and extensive use of natural ventilation to reduce carbon emissions and utility costs.
This new healthcare facility will help NHS Ayrshire & Arran with its long-term goal of shifting the balance of care from acute hospitals into more community based facilities.
Derek Lindsay, NHS Ayrshire & Arran’s Director of Finance and Senior Responsible Officer for the project said...
“After a robust procurement process, we are confident that we have made the right decision. Balfour Beatty’s final tender offers a high quality design and therapeutic environment. We are looking forward to working with them to provide the people of Ayrshire and Arran the very best facility possible.”
