Unveiling the Next Generation of Arena

The NIA, recently renamed after a five year deal with Barclaycard, is currently undergoing a major internal and external overhaul of the facility, which will cost £20.6m over the next two years, with the venue remaining open throughout.

The modernisation of the NIA and improved facilities aim to take advantage of its unique location on the city’s canal side and will feature a new showcase entrance straight from Brindley Place into the arena, with large glazed views over the water and the city, which will secure the venue as a focal point for the city.

The improvement work at the venue, which has not been refurbished since its opening in 1991, is key to continuing its long term success of the venue. The new design includes further opportunities for retail units with an extra 5,926m² of pre and post show space added to the 7,500m² of refurbishment that will take place, ensuring that the new NIA maintains its position as a destination to visit in Birmingham.

Hulley & Kirkwood are the Mechanical & Electrical Services Consultants appointed to design this prestigious City Centre project and this comes on the back of a long standing relationship with The NEC Group and the successful delivery of the recent LG Arena.
