A place to inspire dynamic people to grow and build innovative enterprises leading to building success.
Hulley & Kirkwood were appointed to provide mechanical and electrical services, acoustics, BREEAM and fire consultancy for the £10m Health and Wellbeing Innovation Centre (HWIC) in Truro by BAM Construction.
HWIC is a three storey building which welcomes knowledge based businesses from the areas that support health and wellbeing. It provides a rentable floor space of approximately 2000m² and offers cutting-edge meeting and conference facilities, offices and laboratory space. The meeting room facilities on offer range from accommodating between 2 and 90 delegates.
The BREEAM ‘Excellent’ building encourages sustainable design and minimises the impact caused by its construction, energy use and lifecycle.
The building’s footprint is efficient and maximises both natural daylighting and ventilation. Where heating is necessary during the colder months and for hot water, a biomass boiler provides all the necessary power. Gas boilers are fitted, only to be used in a biomass fuel shortage or breakdown. Lighting energy consumption is reduced with the integration of LED luminaires throughout, with daylight and occupancy automatic controls.
The Centre has won an award at the LABC South West Building Excellence awards in Torquay for ‘Best Large Commercial Building’ in 2013.
