Magnificent Victorian Grade II listed hotel.
Project 1898 is the brand of a new British hospitality company following the acquisition by Starwood Capital of Principal Hayley and a number of other hotel groups.
Hulley & Kirkwood were appointed as M&E Consulting Engineers for the £3.5m refurbishment of The Royal York Hotel which included works to all of the hotel’s bedrooms and suites, the hotel lobby and the creation of a new food and beverage area consisting of new bars, restaurants and new kitchens to support the increase in demand. Extensive refurbishment of the ground and lower ground floors to accommodate the new layouts and function to the spaces required alterations to the existing LV distribution to support the increased load, new ventilation and air conditioning, all within the confines of a Grade II listed building.
The architectural lighting for the refurbishment was carried out by a lighting design specialist with H&K providing support for the lighting controls and detailing circuitry installation and new emergency lighting design to complement the architectural scope.
The Royal York Hotel is a finalist in the European Hotel Design Awards 2016 under Architecture: Restoration & Renovation and Interior Design: Lobby, Lounge & Public Areas categories.
