Penwith College Redevelopment
The new Lamorna, Sennen & Gwenvor Buildings which form the second phase of the redevelopment of Penwith College in Penzance was recently opened by Lady Mary Holborow, the Lord Lieutenant of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The £28m redevelopment providing both Higher and Further Education was carried out by Midas Construction with Hulley and Kirkwood providing Mechanical & Electrical design for M&E Contractor, Mitie Engineering (SW Region) Ltd.

Phase I & II of the project comprise a total of seven buildings with three achieving the targeted BREEAM Excellent status and four BREEAM Very Good status. Elements of the site are within the curtilage of a Listed building.
The scheme includes renewable energy provision, including an on-site 100kw wind turbine and ground source heat pumps.
Porthcorno Building completed in phase one provides science workshops, sports hall, gym, a learning resource centre and further refectory. The central Zennor building provides reception, a performance space, hair and beauty suites, refectory and study areas while the Gwenvor building focuses on new courses such as motor vehicle, construction and plumbing and the new Lamorna building providing higher education courses.
“We are delighted to have been involved with this landmark project. It has been very rewarding especially because of the close working relationships and mutual understanding we enjoyed with the College and their design team throughout the project.”
