Refurbishment of existing prison.
Hulley & Kirkwood were appointed on behalf of Interserve Construction to support them through the successful bid submission for the project to project completion.
The £9.5m project provided complete provision of a new reception building to replace the existing facilities. This required the demolition of existing buildings and reconfiguration of existing buildings to provide the new First Night accommodation.
The new reception building is designed to achieve BREEAM ‘Excellent’ status whilst interconnecting on to the existing system infrastructure.
A number of existing buildings including staff entrance, gatehouse, visits and segregation accommodation have also been reconfigured and extensively refurbished to provide improved facilities.
In addition to the above, the client introduced a further project to upgrade the existing site wide domestic hot and cold water distribution and water storage infrastructure as a Legionella prevention project during the design process.
This project was undertaken in multiple phases to ensure the Prison was maintained fully operational throughout the works.
