Host to over 3 million visitors per year.
Hulley & Kirkwood were part of the team appointed for the refurbishment of the LG Arena, Birmingham. The key aspirations of this project were to dramatically improve the visitor experience within the Arena while offering a ‘destination’ with an immediate sense of arrival.
Essential updating and renewing of the existing M&E services to serve the new Arena and Forum buildings were the priority coupled with fundamental aspects such as the improvement of seating and associated sightlines were also deemed to be of paramount importance.
In essence, the proposals included significant internal refurbishment of the areas, along with considerable work to the facade on the east elevation and landscaping.
Hulley & Kirkwood undertook detailed survey work to establish the extent and condition of existing services, close liaison with the team to ensure that all proposals not only met with operational needs but cost and programme restraints. Discussions were also undertaken with client and local planning with the relatively recent changes to the Building Regulations and the sustainability issues.
The £30m new look Arena achieved its planned opening date and has been successfully hosting live performances since.
