Adding value to the David Lloyd brand.
David Lloyd Farnham set out to create a tennis members club with a separate walk-in day spa facility for extended members and public use. The £8.5m Club is located on a cohabit site with the local Rugby Club and infrastructure services were provided to support both the David Lloyd and Rugby Club requirements.
The design for the David Lloyd Club and Spa implemented a number of energy saving measures to reduce operating costs including LED lighting to the main functional spaces. VRF air conditioning with the frequently used areas and automatic controls to minimise energy use on absence detection. The provision of a combined heat and power unit produces the sites overall carbon footprint. The extensive wet areas of the Club are provided with heat recovery air handling units fitted with humidity sensors to restrict fresh air loads through the winter months. Fluid dynamic thermal calculations were carried out to model the proposed ‘open’ infinity pool area overlooked by a relax area. The model demonstrated the design intent for variable temperatures was achievable and chlorine carryover minimised.
Hulley and Kirkwood have also provided mechanical and electrical services design for clubs in Glasgow, Birmingham and Hull.
