Hulley & Kirkwood were delighted to be involved in the University of Manchester's £55M redevelopment of the Alliance Manchester Business School (AMBS). The project created a new first class teaching and learning facility that seeks to position the university alongside other leading education and research establishments worldwide.
The project involved extensive remodelling and refurbishment of the existing 30,000m² business school to provide contemporary teaching and learning accommodation, including a new library and enterprise zone, as well as updated catering facilities.
The project also incorporated the redevelopment of the existing Precinct Centre to create a 5,000m² retail and leisure offering specifically designed to host a mix of high-quality brands and amenities.
Hulley & Kirkwood were appointed as Mechanical, Electrical and Sustainability Engineering Consultants and also provided the BREEAM assessor role together with MEP cost consultant and vertical passenger transportation duties.
Throughout the project Hulley & Kirkwood provided specific design duties, including detailed site surveys, to accommodate the complex phasing and enabling works required to facilitate the redevelopment works. This included the design of the ICT and district heating infrastructure diversions associated with of the removal of the existing Oxford Road link bridge.
