Middlemoor Sports Hall

Hulley & Kirkwood were appointed by Devon & Cornwall Police to provide the M&E design for their new sports hall facility, located at their headquarters in Exeter.

The new facility comprises a 4-court sports hall with attached fitness suite, changing accommodation and rehabilitation/physiotherapy rooms, providing space for police activities such as self-defence, taser training, night simulation exercises and parade drills, as well as recreational sports.

The M&E design aligns with Exeter City Council’s focus on sustainability and energy efficiency, as well as providing control measures particular to the client’s requirements.

These include:-

  • Natural ventilation via windcatchers with sports-specific set back controls.

  • Air source heat pump generated domestic hot water.

  • High efficiency LED lighting, zoned and incorporating multiple output levels to allow for dusk/night simulation.

  • Low SFP MVHR units with high-efficiency heat recovery.

  • Water wastage control measures.

  • Full BMS control over the HVAC systems.

Overview:

  • Brand new sports, fitness and training centre serving the DCP headquarters.

  • Efficient and cost-effective M&E design balancing sustainable technologies with existing systems.

  • Alternative control strategies to meet the client’s bespoke usage requirements.
