Our Glasgow Office was pleased to welcome Kerr Fulton as our summer placement. It was wonderful to meet him and see his enthusiasm and contributions in the office. Here's what he thought of his experience:
Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in mechanical or electrical design engineering?
"My family has a history of working within the industry and I heard them talk about the jobs which they were working on which sparked my interest. The mix of office working and site visits makes the job enjoyable as no day is the same."
Q: What new knowledge or skills did you gain during your work placement?
"A lot of software knowledge which I had never used before such as, Relux, Revit, Electrical OM and AutoCAD. As well as practice at writing specs and reviewing documents. I gained knowledge of regulations surrounding fire alarms, lighting, CCTV and containment and how to design these systems."
Q: How did feedback from your supervisors or mentors contribute to your learning experience?
"Helping me when I was unsure and providing guidance. As well as making casual conversation to get to know me."
Q: How did your work placement change your perspective of the industry?
"It has made me appreciate the amount of work that goes into details other people wouldn’t consider within day to day life, such as fire systems or hospital power redundancies."
Q: What part of your work placement was the most fun or enjoyable?
"I enjoyed working on projects to completion and seeing work I had completed issued. I also enjoyed learning the new software as it was challenging. It was also great to be invited out with the team by helvar to flight club."
Q: What is one thing you wish you had known before starting your work placement?
"Not to stress because everyone in the office is really nice and helpful."
As his placement concludes, we are thrilled to hear that he had a positive experience and enjoyed his time with us. We wish him the very best in his future endeavours and look forward to following his continued success.
